Welcome to an exploration of Art Deco influences through the lens of our lighting designers and glassmakers. From bewitching high ceiling lights to quirky deco wall fittings, we spotlight one of the most defining epochs in designer history. Art Deco dominated the playful period of the late 1920’s and the whole of the 1930’s with Hollywood-style glamour, bold geometric patterns, iconic motifs and fine craftsmanship. In a time of ‘Great Gatsby’ parties, ‘Chicago’ theatrics, high-flyers and total decadence; opulent glass chandeliers, show-stopping pendant lights and wall lamps were installed to ‘wow’ and make a long-lasting impression. Nowadays the underlying sentiment is still true but in a much more subtle way. We want impactful design without being too showy, we strive for designs that integrate beautifully into existing schemes and palettes, whilst still commanding focus. As lighting lovers, designers and glassmakers who value atmosphere above all else, we mostly yearn to be transported back in time to a state of nostalgia and what better era to preserve through light and creation , than this one?
