the brief | where do we begin?
Located in the south-east of England, this charming barn refurbishment was in need of a lighting centrepiece that could integrate into its breathtaking, heritage surroundings and bring about a soft, sophisticated ambience.
Often we come across builds that require special assistance in regard to elevation and lighting design, and due to the sloping ceilings, quaint beams and architectural challenges this was one of them. With bespoke lighting solutions for restrictive spaces being one of our specialities, our design team quickly got to work designing a framework that not only existed safely and efficiently within these parameters, but could also guarantee our clients the structure, balance of illumination and style they required.

the design | how did we overcome challenges?
The style of pendant shade was already determined at the initial enquiry, so our focus was primarily on the suspension and installation element. From our Victoria lighting collection, our clients opted for the medium Victoria pendant in clear blown glass and a 9-way cascade cluster format so the lighting would hang from the ceiling at tiered heights, providing symmetry and balanced light.
Due to the building being listed and our team not wanting to do anything to diminish the integrity of the design and character of the build, we explored several lighting solutions alongside our clients’ specifications to draw the perfect conclusion. With the ceiling being of the sloped variety, our designers worked on a canopy and elevation style that would accommodate the angle of the roof, whilst blending in with the dominant rustic beams that ran throughout.
From various different elevation styles to canopies, we decided on a special type of suspension that could hold the weight of the lighting structure easily and help the chandelier to blend in, adding to the rustic aesthetic. Giving the illusion of little to no physical restraints, the lighting arrangement was made to seamlessly float from the ceiling in a clean, contemporary completion.

skilled team | making the magic happen
Deep in the heart of our London studio our glassblowing team forge glass-blown creations by hand. The authentic act of every glassmaker crafting each individual shade lends itself to authenticity and the intention that every light is slightly different. Bespoke design is exceptionally important to our clients and we love bringing them personal, lighting builds in which every line, every detail belongs solely to them.
Our illumination tell stories and in the case of our wonderful barn project, our custom chandelier told one of timeless elegance, craftsmanship and escapism. Nine beautiful shades were blown, moulded and assembled before being tested and signed off for delivery by our in-house team. The shades were custom-fitted with whisky-coloured flexes and brushed brass metalwork, plus sleek bulbs for a crafted, modern edge.
install and completion | the finish
The next and final stage of the project took place on-site at the renovated barn itself, in which our trusted sub-contractor fitted the bespoke chandelier to the letter. At Leverint we’re extremely fortunate to have experienced and incredibly reliable tradesmen involved in every stage of the build.
From the initial consultation to the final completed showcase, this project brought our team an innate sense of satisfaction and happiness knowing we finally achieved our client’s vision. This dream chandelier represented their style, personality and paired perfectly with this charming barn’s interior.
